Solo Festival Video Excerpts

You may remember that we recently held the AMP National Solo Festival. This event was the first of its kind, allowing music students, regardless of their geographic location or experience level, to prepare and submit a solo for adjudication through SmartMusic. Many students used this opportunity to polish the solo they’d prepared for a local solo & ensemble festival, while other students used it as a way to “get their feet wet” before entering a local competition.

While the submissions we received were amazing, there were not enough of them to warrant a second round of competition. Our judges have selected four from the offerings we received that represent the best in their classes: two students in the junior division, and two in the senior division. We’ve asked each of our finalists to submit a video, which you will see on this page. Each of these students has received a gift card from their local music retailer and a prize package that included a pair of Ety-Plugs ear protection, and a year’s subscription to SmartMusic.

We want to thank Paige’s Music, The Music Shoppe, Music & Arts and MakeMusic for their support of this program. Thanks to our judges and thanks especially to the students who entered and their parents. This experience would not have been possible without you!

This week, we’ll meet our two senior division finalists. Next time, we’ll meet our junior division finalists.  After the next issue of Loudspeaker is released later this month, you will be able to click on and play the entirety of each of their solo performances.
